I woke up from this dream
In a dirty old graveyard
With blood on my boots
And a shovel in hand.
And try though I may
To retrace my steps
For the life of me
I can't see how
I came to this land.
When did I get here
Where have I been
Can anybody help me
I'm trapped with my sins
I need to find an answer
I need to fill my role
Where is the meaning
Is it buried in my soul
Not a tree is in sight
Or any sign of life
And the moon is shining
Brighter than Hell.
There's hardly any order
Tombstones lying on each other
And this goes on forever
Or as far as I can tell.
I search for some meaning
Something to hold onto
And I look to the tombstones
In hope and with fear.
But the epitaphs are empty
Every single one
And this becomes
more than I can bear.
When did I get here
Where have I been
Can't nobody help me
I'm trapped with my sins
I'll never find an answer
I'll never fill my role
Where is the meaning?
Buried with my soul
I run with the wind
As fast as I can
Atop the tombs
I'm quite light on my feet.
And there in the distance
A freshly filled hole
Lie before me
And the stone's epitaph reads:
Here lies
The first,
The last,
The least,
The most,
The sinner,
The saint,
The mortal,
The ghost,
The wise,
The dumb,
The false,
The true,
The strong,
The weak,
Here lies you.
